Somatic therapy in Seattle

Your Visit/FAQ

Your Visit / F.A.Q.

Announcement: I am currently on sabbatical and not seeing clients. I plan to re-open my Seattle practice in Fall of 2024. I will keep this space updated with a more precise return date once it is finalized. If you are in crisis right now, check out this site with resources to reach out to via phone or text: https://988lifeline.org/talk-to-someone-now/ . If you’re on the hunt for a Somatic Experiencing practitioner, check out this directory: https://directory.traumahealing.org/ . If you came here looking for a Lifespan Integration therapist, try here: https://international-directory.lifespanintegration.com/ . I wish you the best of luck on your healing journey!

What do you charge?

My rates are $150 for a 50-minute session or $215 for an 80-minute session, payable at the end of a session. If this cost is prohibitive for you, I also offer a limited number of reduced-fee appointments per week. Please let me know if you are interested in discussing those terms.

Do you accept insurance?

I am not in-network for insurance at this time; however, I am happy to provide you a receipt upon payment, and many insurance policies will reimburse you for some percentage of your out-of-network counseling sessions. You should contact your insurance provider directly for more information about that.

How long is a session?

My standard psychotherapy or Somatic Experiencing session is 50 minutes long. Lifespan Integration sessions are typically 80 minutes. For couples or family counseling I recommend an 80-minute session as well.

How often should I come?

The pace is up to you. Most clients come to therapy on a weekly or every-other-week basis. I recommend weekly to start as we get to know each other and work with your most pressing discomfort; when it feels right, we can adjust your frequency to reflect your needs and schedule.

How long is this going to take?

This is different for everyone. Some clients come in with a pressing issue or a specific trauma they would like to resolve, and feel better in 4-8 sessions. Some find they are dealing with more pervasive, deeper, or developmentally installed issues or patterns that may take longer to resolve, as long as a year or more of regular visits. Part of our conversation in our first meeting will be around defining your goals for therapy and our hopeful timeline, and we will revisit these as counseling progresses.

What about COVID? Can I see you online/in person?

I currently offer both online videoconference therapy and in-person therapy. In-person therapy is available only to my clients who are fully vaccinated, and currently Washington law requires that we wear face masks in session. I keep the windows open and a HEPA filter running, and sanitize high-touch surfaces between in-person clients.

How do I get started?

You can use the “Make an Appointment” button below to send me a contact form; or, if you prefer, you can drop me an email at alissa@tykacounseling.com or call me at (425) 224-6584 (and leave a detailed message; I don’t often pick up, but I will call you back.) We can chat or correspond briefly about what you’re looking for and whether we’d be a good match for each other in terms of both fit and scheduling. If we decide to move forward, we’ll confirm our first appointment date and time and I’ll send you a link to your client portal where you can fill out your intake paperwork, see your scheduled appointments, and read about my practice and privacy policies.
